This is where the resort regarded as the oldest on the Romanian coast began: Ioan Movilă's hotels and baths opened in summer 1902.
About the place
Ioan Movilă, a Moldavian landowner, bought the land between the sea and Lake Techirghiol and in 1899 began building two hotels, today's Hotel Parc, and a sanatorium with 50 cabins for hot mud baths, to plans by the architect Ivanovici and the engineer Zissu. The baths and hotels opened on 15 July 1902. The resort was called in turn Movilă, Carmen Sylva (from 1928), Vasile Roaită and, from 1962, Eforie Sud.
Next to Hotel Parc stands Vila Zeana, built in 1934 by Dr Dumitru Zeana and now Hotel Flacăra. About 300 m towards the sea is the seafront, with the Art Deco casino designed by Arta Cerchez and finished in 1935, closed since 1997 and put up for sale in 2025, and Vila Popovici from 1903–1906. The beach below was widened by the end of 2023, with seven new groynes along the 5.7 km between the Belona marina and Tuzla.
