It is a marine reserve declared as early as 1980, seen from an almost unbuilt shore, and it holds 4.7 on Google from more than 50 reviews.
About the place
The reserve was set up by Decision 31/1980 of the Constanța County Council and confirmed as a protected area by Law 5/2000. In 2008 the newspaper Jurnalul Național described it as about 5,000 hectares, with one zone where diving is allowed for scientific purposes only and a buffer zone where swimming and fishing are allowed only from rowing boats. The Natura 2000 site Vama Veche – 2 Mai, about 12,300 hectares, covers the area.
On land, the shore between the two villages is largely wild: a low cliff, small sand-and-pebble beaches and stretches used by naturists. You can walk from Vama Veche to 2 Mai along the cliff edge or on the beach. It holds 4.7 on Google from 56 reviews, which praise the quiet.
Good to know
- Wear proper shoes: the steps on the cliff are uneven, and there are stones in places where you enter the water.
- Bring water and take your rubbish with you; reviews complain about litter left by others.
- If you see a suspicious metal object on the beach, do not touch it and call 112: in June 2026 military divers destroyed a sea mine here.
